Title: I wasn’t prepared
Author: Charisma Cabot
Disclaimer: I did not create nor do I own the characters of Law and Order: SVU. I also do not own the song ‘I wasn’t prepared’, Eisley owns that song. I’m only borrowing. I only own the story line.
Summery: Olivia reflects on what she used to have with Melinda. Song Fiction.
A/N: This is my first O/W fan fiction so I hope it’s good.
Oh, when the day is blue
I'll sit here wondering about you
And how the pollen fell
All around your face in strange yellow patterns
Olivia Benson watched Melinda Warner from a far. She let the night’s sky wash over her as she watched Melinda walk toward her car. She didn’t take her eyes of her until she knew that she was safely in her car and out of harms way. But even then she watched her car until she could no longer see it any longer. She still tried to see the distant car and pick it out from one of the many cars that were driving by.
But, I wasn't prepared for this
Oh, I wasn't prepared for this
It had been a week today since Melinda had walked out the door on her. She had not been prepared for the pain she felt. She had not thought she would miss her this much. No one had made her feel like this since Alex had left. She never thought she would be able to fall in love again. But here she was clearly in love with Melinda, but too afraid to say anything. Even when the words that she feared the most were the words that would bring her Melinda back to her.
When the morning came
the bees flew down and
wrapped themselves around me
And that's when I spoke the word
To have them trace your face for me in pollen
She jumped into the car and headed downtown to her lonely apartment. She turned on the radio but soon found it was a mistake. Every song that came on the radio seemed to be another song that reminded her of the M.E that she couldn’t call her own anymore. But she could never force herself to turn the radio off. The songs wrapped around her gaining buckets full of tears. She couldn’t take the pain anymore. She wished it would go away. She wished she could forget about the woman who had stolen her heart without realizing she had done it.
But, I wasn't prepared for this
Oh, I wasn't prepared for this
She slammed her hand down on the dashboard trying to create other pain to take her mind off the numbness her body and heart felt. She hated the way this woman was affecting her. She hated knowing that Melinda had this kind of control over her emotions. She couldn’t take this anymore because soon she was going to break. She didn’t think that because Melinda broke up with her because she wasn’t ready to come out of the closet. No one even knew that she had been dating Alex, not even Elliot. Melinda herself still didn’t know that she had seen the former ADA.
Come, come back to me, my, my darling
Come, come back to me, my, my darling
She found herself on Melinda’s doorstep. She didn’t know how she got there but she knew what she had to do. She had to confront her poison. The door opened and Melinda came outside.
“What are you doing here?” Melinda demanded.
“Give me a second shot,” cried Olivia, “I’ll do anything. I love you.”
Olivia did not know why she was begging to this woman to take her back. She had never been one to beg. She hated how that would make her look. It would make her look weak. She hated feeling week.
I wasn't prepared for this
Oh, I wasn't prepared for this
“I’m sorry Liv,” apologized Melinda like that would make it all better, “I just can’t.”
Olivia’s world crumbled around her as the door closed. She was not prepared at how her rejection would make her feel. Olivia was usually the epitome of one night stands. The only one who had ever lasted that was Alex. Olivia knew they would still be together if she had not been put in the witness protection program. She went back to her car and after a few more minutes of crying she brought herself together. She took out a piece of paper and after scribbling some words on the note she taped it to Melinda’s mailbox. She knocked on the door before running back to the car and driving off. Melinda came outside ready to find out why Olivia was still there. She found a note taped to her mail box. It read:
